Access to Weiss Lake’s Tailrace Fishing Pier will be temporarily closed

Access to Weiss Lake’s Tailrace Fishing Pier will be temporarily closed beginning Sept. 23.

The paved parking area and fishing pier will be closed for approximately 10 days for public safety as electrical crews work on a transmission line leaving Weiss powerhouse.

A locked gate and fencing will prevent access to the work and staging areas during the project.

The Weiss tailrace fishing pier is identified as Site W-8 in the Recreation Plan for P-2146.

Alabama Power will provide public notice of the temporary closing, including posting signs at the Weiss Lake.

The signs will provide the tentative re-opening date and give alternate fishing locations, including Neely Henry Dam Tailrace (sites NH-5 and NH-6), Bay Springs Boat Ramp (Site W-3), Highway 9 Causeway Ramp (Site W-5), Cedar Bluff Fishing Pier (Site W-6) and Tillison’s Bend Boat Ramp (Site NH-4).
