All public access to the Lewis Smith Dam tailrace area on the west bank at the powerhouse will be closed to the public tentatively May 22–26, with the reopening depending on system operations, weather impacts, etc. Closings include the visitors center, fishing platform, picnic area and public parking. If the work is completed before May 26, we will reopen the facilities.
Tailrace angler sites 1 through 7 on the east bank below the dam will remain open to public access. These facilities are accessible via the Birmingham Water Works’ Sipsey Pump Station Road (Cullman County Road 95).
We will provide updates regarding the temporary closings.
