The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorized Alabama Power to build a generating plant at Holt Lock and Dam nearly 40 years ago. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers owns the dam, while Alabama Power owns and maintains the generating plant. The plant marked the final phase of Alabama Power’s hydroelectric development of the Black Warrior River. The powerhouse and dam were named for the nearby Holt community. Preserves amenities at Holt Reservoir are open 24 hours unless otherwise noted.
