Lakeside lands preserved and protected by Alabama Power.
Stewardship is our mission.
Our work creates opportunity and economic prosperity for our state’s lake regions, but also seeks to preserve and protect Alabama’s natural resources.
The Preserves are undeveloped lands around our lakes and will remain in a natural state for generations to come. They feature hiking trails, picnic areas, fishing piers, playgrounds, boat launches and resting spots for everyone to enjoy. Our goal is to make the water and activities around our lakes inclusive and available to everyone.
Many of The Preserves feature pollinator plots designed to attract pollinators necessary for healthy and productive agricultural ecosystems. Bees are especially common pollinators, but butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, hummingbirds, lizards and bats are also common ones. Plants depend on them as does much of the food we eat.
Each of our state’s lakes and streams have some of the most topographically and ecologically diverse property surrounding them. From highlands with rock outcroppings to bottom lands with moist rich soil, The Preserves are a celebration of these lands. They are designed to be used and open for all to enjoy. In total, there are more than 70 public-use properties around our lakes. Some are as simple as boat launches or picnic spots while others are fully outfitted with fishing piers and weigh stations, playgrounds, hiking trails and swimming holes.
