Alabama Power is currently in the process of updating its Lake Martin Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). As part of this process, Alabama Power is sharing information with stakeholders about the permits that have been issued at Martin over the past five years.
Between July 2017 and the end of 2022, Alabama Power issued a total of 4,167 permits. Out of these permits, approximately 67 percent were issued on unclassified shoreline, meaning that Alabama Power has no authority through its SMP on property above full pool. In addition, approximately 32 percent were issued on property where Alabama Power maintains the 30-Foot Control Strip.
The remaining permits were issued on other land classifications such as Recreation, Quasi-Public, Commercial Recreation, and Natural/Undeveloped.
